Superbugs and How We Are Helping Them
As a science major, I'm always interested in how the scientific facts and mechanisms I learn in my classes can be applied in real life. In my microbiology course, we learned about the development of antibiotic resistance in bacteria-- this happens to be a major public health concern, and there is currently a large outbreak of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the United States that is, even now, infecting more and more people. I decided to look into the economic and social factors that promote the spread of these "superbugs," and call on my peers to start reversing this trend.
